The High Court on Monday asked authorities to suspend the process of the 33rd BCS Exam 2012 preliminary test for 3 (three) weeks.

The bench of justices Farid Ahmed and Sheikh Hassan Arif issued the order following a writ petition filed on Sunday by 20 candidates who applied online but did not get admit cards.

The court asked authorities to explain why the BCS circular with the condition of only applying online would not be declared illegal, petitioners’ lawyer A K M Fayez told.

“According to the High Court order, all kind of activities of the 33rd BCS will remain halted for three weeks,” he said.

The court also asked why the Public Service Commission (PSC) would not be given directives to allow the applicants, who did not get their admit cards, to sit for the test slated for June 1.

The court asked the PSC chairman, Cabinet Division secretary, PSC’s examination controller and Teletalk chairman to respond to the court within one week.

Earlier last week, on April 10, Bangladesh Public Service Commission official has confirmed that preliminary test for the 33rd Bangladesh Civil Service Examination will be held on June 1,2012.

PSC public relations officer Mir Mosharraf Hossain told that the commission fixed the date for the test on Tuesday, April 10.

According to BPSC, a total of 183,627 candidates have applied online for the 33rd BCS Exam 2012 test.

This is first time candidates have sent their applications online for any BCS test.

The 33rd BCS aims at filling up 4,206 vacant posts. This time, under the general category, 300 will be recruited for BCS (administration), 89 for police, 69 for tax, 16 for foreign affairs and 566 as general cadres.

On Feb 29, PSC had issued circular inviting applications for the 33rd BCS Exam.
