Bangladesh A lost by 11 runs against Northerns Academy

Bangladesh A vs Northerns

Bangladesh A continues its losing habit while the Northerns Academy team beat the touring side by 11 runs in a one day warm-up cricket match at the Irene Oval on Oct 27.

Winning the toss and batting first, Northerns Academy only managed 178 all out in 49.3 overs concerning a very disciplined bowling performance by Bangladesh A pacers. Al-Amin had the best bowling figures with 2/16, while Rabbi & Shahid also took two wickets each. Zendon Vester was the top scorer for Northerns with his patient 44 runs of 67 balls. Northerns Academy batting went in disarray losing wickets in regular intervals, before Vester & Khoza hold the innings together in the middle order to post a total below 200, which is still a par score in the bouncy wicket. Bangladesh fielders were also in action to tie down the run rate below four, producing run outs by dismantling wickets twice.

In reply to an easy looking target, Bangladesh openers started explosively finding boundaries all over the ground and reached in the forties in only five overs before Soumya Sarkar misjudged a bouncer of Danru Ferns. Seven balls later, Liton Kumar Das caught behind by wicket-keeper Johan Smith in an edgy outswinger by Ruan Sadler, scoring a single of six deliveries. Mosaddeque Hossain gone for a duck in the same over to call an unlikely Bangladesh A collapse.

Ruan Sadler rip through the Bangladesh A middle-order as they fall apart cheaply leaving the team 94/7 in 16 overs, before Mahmudul Hassan & Md. Shohid put up a brave resistance in a well judged 60 runs partnership. Bantu Dandala took both the wickets of Mahmud and Shohid to end any hope visible. The visitors eventually bundled up for 167 with 16.3 overs to spare, ensuring third consecutive defeat in the tour.

Bangladesh A team will play a T20 match against the Titans on Wednesday, Oct 28. Visitors will wrap up the South Africa tour with a ODI against the Gauteng Strikers on Thursday, Oct 29 before flying to Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh A vs Northerns 2nd ODI Preview

Bangladesh A will play their 2nd warm-up ODI practice match against the Northerns/Titans at the Irene Oval on Oct 27. Bangladesh A vs Northerns 2nd ODI will start at 2pm Bangladesh time (08:00 GMT). Bangladesh A lost the 1st ODI against Northerns by 4 wickets on Oct 20. Bangladesh A propelled to 272 losing 7 wickets in 50 overs, while the Titans gun down the score losing 6 wickets and having 9 balls to spare.

Bangladesh A also lost the 3-day match against the Northerns Academy team. The touring team will try to gear up in the winning seat before the tour of Zimbabwe. Bangladesh A middle order batsmen must play longer innings to put up a fighting total against the defending Africa T20 Cup-champions and the joint Sunfoil Three Day Cup-winners. Finally, to win a game in South African pitches, death over bowling is something to learn for Bangladesh bowlers. Proteas pitches are fast and bouncy with grass all over it and acts very different than any sub-continent pitches.

Bangladesh A will play a T20 against the Titans on Wednesday, Oct 28.

“We were one of the best teams in the domestic limited-overs competition last season, and we want to build on it this season. This performance will boost our confidence for the 2015/2016-competition,” said Mark Charlton, the Northerns coach.

Bangladesh team manager Habibul Bashar looked pretty annoyed over the batsmen being getting out on 30 or 40 odd runs, he said “Our batsmen are showing good flow of strokes, but they also need to learn leaving good balls in this kind of grassy pitches. They should have adopt the Proteas conditions much better way in the last ten days. Also our bowlers are doing well in the early overs but failing to keep the momentum later while the ball gets old. We are keen to win the rest of the matches in SA before leaving for Zimbabwe.”
