BPL Match-28 Report: Hodge Led Barisal Burners to Semi-finals
Aussie opener Brad Hodge’s brilliant fifty helped Barisal Burners become the second team after Rajshahi to move to the last four of the Bangladesh Premier League T20 as they defeated Chittagong Kings by five wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Winning the toss, Barisal captain Brad Hodge decided to field first as Chittagong openers Jason Roy and Ziaur Rahman tortured his bowlers.
The openers put 50 runs within the fourth over, but lost their first wicket after it when Ziaur (24 off 13 balls) was stumped by Mustard off an Al-Amin Hossain delivery.
Jason Roy scored 42 from 25 deliveries with six boundaries and one over-boundary, but after the dismissal of in-from Zimbabwean batsman Taylor (25), the lower-order failed to keep the run-rate up to the mark and lost wickets on a regular basis.
West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo was the one against the odds who scored 26 with two huge sixes as Chittagong managed to post a total of 150 for nine.
Barisal bowler Yasir Arafat picked three wickets for 25 while Nazmul Islam grabbed two for 24.
In reply, the Burners made a bright start, with openers Hodge and Shehzad making 109.
Hodge hammered 67 in just 36 balls with eight fours and three sixes while Pakistani opener Ahmed Shehzad scored 43 off 30 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Arafat Sunny and Enamul Haque Jnr took two wickets each for 21 and 23 runs respectively.
