BPL 2012 T20: BCB Sells Sponsorship and Broadcasting Rights for $44.33m
High focused Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 Cricket Tournament, the biggest domestic flagship event in Bangladesh will be commenced from February 10, 2012. On the eve of the BPL, two signing agreements between Bangladesh Cricket Board and Games on Sports Management Company, Indian association with Essential Group from UK and Bangladeshi awaiting broadcasting television channel ‘Virgo Media Channel-9’ held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
The signing ceremony was followed by a catwalk of the ramp model in order to make it more glamorous.
Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, director of BCB and chairman of BPL’s governing body and Anjan Ganguly, director of Games on Sports Management signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisation.
On the other hand, Enayetur Rahman, director of Channel-9 and Anjan Ganguly, director of Games on Sports Management also signed in another agreement.
Games on Sports Management, an India’s event management company made a contract with BPL for six years with a staggering amount of $44.33 million.
The showcase event will be held on double league basis, where six franchises teams will take part, named by six divisional towns- – Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet.
A total of 33 matches will be held in different two venues of the country, where 25 matches in Dhaka and eight matches in Chittagong will be held with the final match will take place on February 29, 2012.
The franchises auction for the BPL will be held on January 10 and the players auction will held on 19th & 20th Jan 2012.
Approximately 75 foreign players are expected to participate in the much expected event in the country.
The matches of the 20-day long event will be telecast in any one of the renowned sports TV channel out of ESPN Star Sports or Ten Sports along with any three or four foreign television channels.
BCB president AHM Mustafa Kamal, MP, was also present during the signing ceremony.
