Service Selection Commission, India conducts examinations for recruitment to lower categories of posts. The Staff Selection Commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training and comprises of Chairman, two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations who are appointed on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed by the Central Government from time to time. The Commission is provided such supporting staff as considered necessary by the Central Government.

The Staff Selection Commission has its Headquarter at New Delhi. All Examinations as well as administrative matters are submitted to the Chairman through two Members. The Secretary functions under both the Members. Besides, there are post of one Director, one Deputy Secretary, two Joint Directors, nine Under Secretaries, four Deputy Directors, one Finance & Budget Officer, one Assistant Director (OL), 24 Section Officers and more than 183 supporting officers / staff working at the Headquarters for discharging the duties and responsibilities of the Commission. An Organisational Chart of the Commission (Hqrs.) is given at Appendix II,. The functions of various Branches/Sections of the Hqrs. are briefly outlined under the heading “Functions of the Sections”.

For smooth conduct of examinations through a large network of examination centres/sub-centres situated in different parts of the country for the convenience of the candidates, the Commission has been provided with a Regional set-up. At present, there are seven Regional Offices at Allahabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore and two Sub-Regional Offices at Raipur and Chandigarh. Each Regional Office is headed by a Regional Director and each Sub-Regional office is headed by a Deputy Director. The details of the functions and operative jurisdictions of these Regional and Sub-Regional Offices are given at Appendix-IV, . The Commission may, with the approval of the Department of Personnel & Training, open more Regional/Sub-Regional Offices of the Commission at such other places, as it may consider necessary.

Functions of SSC

1. To make recruitment to (i) all Group “B” posts in the various Ministries/Departments of the Govt. of India and their Attached and Subordinate Offices which are in the pay scales the maximum of which is Rs.10,500 or below and (ii) all non-technical Group “C” posts in the various Ministries/Departments of the Govt. of India and their Attached and Subordinate Offices, except those posts which are specifically exempt from the purview of the Staff Selection Commission.

2. To conduct examinations and/or interviews, whenever required for recruitment to the posts within its purview. The examinations would be held as far as possible at different centres and successful candidates posted, to the extent possible, to their home State/Region.

3. In particular, to hold Open Competitive Examinations for recruitment to the posts of:

(i) Lower Division Clerks in the various Ministries/Departments, Attached and Subordinate Offices of the Government of India including those participating in the Central Secretariat Clerical Service /Indian Foreign Service (B), Railway Board Secretariat Clerical Service and the Armed Forces Headquarters Clerical Service;

(ii) Grade “C” and Grade ‘D” Stenographers of the Central Secretariat Stenographers Service and equivalent Grades of Indian Foreign Service (B) Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers Service/Armed Forces Head quarters Stenographers Service and to the posts of Stenographers in other Departments including Attached and Subordinate Offices of the Government of India not participating in the aforesaid Services;

(iii) Assistants in the various Ministries/Departments including Attached and Subordinate Offices of the Government of India including those participating in the Central Secretariat Service/ IFS (B)/ Railway Board Secretariat Service/Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service;

(iv) Inspectors of Central Excise in different Collectorates of Central Excise, Inspectors of Income-Tax in different charges of the Commissioners of Income-Tax, Preventive Officers and Examiners in different Custom Houses, Assistant Enforcement Officers in Directorate of Enforcement;

(v) Sub-Inspectors in , Central Bureau of Investigation and Central Police Organisations;

(vi) Divisional Accountants, Auditors and Accountants under the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India and other Accounts Departments and Upper Division Clerks in Attached and Subordinate Offices of the Government of India.

(vii) Junior Engineer (Civil & Electrical) in CPWD, a Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial, General Central Services (Technical) post.

(viii) Statistical Investigators, Grade IV of Subordinate Statistical Service (SSC), a Group ‘C’ non-gazetted, non-ministerial post in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation

(ix) Tax Assistant ( a Group C non – Gazetted Ministerial post in various Commissionerates of Central Board of Direct Taxes ( CBDT) and Central Board of Excise and Customs )

(x) Section Officer ( Commercial Audit), a Group “B” Non-gazetted post in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department

(xi) Section Officer (Audit) , a Group B Non-Gazetted post in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General

(4). The Commission also holds Departmental Examination for promotion from:

(i) Group “D” to Lower Division Clerk Grade of the Central Secretariat Clerical Service and equivalent grades in Indian Foreign Service (B)/Railway Board Secretariat Clerical Service/Armed Force Hqrs. Clerical Service;

(ii) Lower Divisional Clerks to Upper Divisional Clerks Grade of the Central Secretariat Clerical Service and equivalent Indian Foreign Service (B)/Railway Board Secretariat Clerical Service/Armed Forces Hqrs. Clerical Service;

(iii) Stenographers Grade “D” to Stenographers Grade “C” of the Central Secretariat Stenographers Service and equivalent grades in Indian Foreign Service (B)/Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers Service/Armed Forces Hqrs. Stenographers Service.

5. The Commission conducts periodical Typewriting Tests in English and Hindi.

6. The Commission prepares schemes for recruitment to all Group “B” posts which are in the pay scale of Rs 9300 to 34800 with a grade pay of Rs 42000 or below and Group “C” non-technical posts in the Ministries/Departmental of the Govt. of India including its Attached and Subordinate Offices in consultation with the Departments concerned.

7. The Commission conducts examinations/selections for recruitment to all Group “B” posts which are in the pay scales the maximum of which is Rs.10, 500 or below and all Group “C” non-technical posts in the Ministries/Departments of the Govt. from time to time.

8. The Commission performs such other functions as may be entrusted to it by the Central Govt. from time to time.

The results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations will be published simultaneously today, Thursday, May 9, 2013.

The results will be released at 2:00pm through the respective centres, educational institutions, websites of all education boards and also short message services (SMS) of different mobile phone operators, officials said.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will announce the results at a press conference at his ministry at 1:00pm after handing over the copy of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at 10:00am in the monring.

Students have been asked to collect their results from respective centres or educational institutions. Heads of all academic institutions have been advised to receive the result sheets from the officials of the respective centres.

The results will also be sent to the email addresses of the colleges and madrasas that had submitted their addresses earlier.

Results will not be available at the education boards, education ministry and newspaper offices.

This year a total of 1,420,057 students from 26,855 educational institutions sat for the examinations at 2,464 centres under 10 educational boards. Of the candidates, 745,229 were male while 684,828 female.

A total of 1,052,969 students from 15,933 institutions took part in this year’s SSC examinations under eight general education boards while 275,930 from 9,197 madrasas sat for Dakhil exams under madrasa board.

Besides, 91,158 students from 1,725 institutions sat for SSC vocational examinations this year.

Results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent Dakhil and SSC (vocational) examinations 2012 will be published online on Monday, 7th May 2012 at 1pm. All education boards are set to jointly publish SSC exam results on May 7, 2012. This date is final as Education minister & education board confirmed the date.

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said on Sunday,April 29, that a copy of the results would be handed over to prime minister Sheikh Hasina at 10am on May 7. “Formally the results will be published through a press conference at the ministry at 1pm,” he added

The examinees would be able to collect their results after the press meet, Nahid added.

An agreement with Teletalk has been signed to provide SSC results through mobile phones. In addition, the SSC results 2012 will also be made available on the board’s website.

Examinees can collect the results from their educational institutions or websites of the education boards or on the Teletalk mobile phone, the ministry said in a statement.

Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Dhaka has taken a special initiative to publish the SSC results. Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid will formally announce the SSC results 2012 at a press conference at 1:00pm on May 7, an education ministry source told rootsbd.com.

Prior to the announcement, he will submit a copy of the SSC results 2012 to the prime minister Sheikh Hasina on 10:00am in the morning.

Educational institutions of Dhaka district are requested to gather information from Dhaka board while the institutions from outside Dhaka districts are requested to contact respective district education offices to know their e-mail addresses.

The tests took place simultaneously in 2,464 centers under eight general education boards, Dakhil and vocational board. SSC Practical tests completed on March 4, 2012. In this SSC Exam 2012, all the SSC exam papers had creative questions except Bengali second paper, English first and second paper and mathematics.

According to the education ministry, a total of 1,420,057 candidates — 735,229 males and 684,828 females — appeared in the SCC exams 2012 under 10 education boards in February.

Of them, 275,930 students took Dakhil examinations under the Madrasa Education Board.

Under the technical education board, 91,158 students sat for the exams.

Last year, 1,206,019 candidates sat for the exams under the 10 education boards with overall pass percentage of 82.31. Pass rates of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Comilla, Jessore, Chittagong, Barisal, Sylhet and Dinajpur general education boards are 84.63, 80.32, 85.85, 84.04, 74.27, 78.30, 81.23 and 77.48 percent respectively. According to the statistics of 2011, a total of 76,749 obtained GPA-5 distinctions.

The education ministry had said the SSC examination results 2012 will be published within 60 days like the previous year. Information of published SSC Results 2012 will be exchanged online among the education board control rooms and related examination centres and available through online at www.educationboardresults.gov.bd

This year, the number of total students took part in SSC exam 2012 from abroad is 274. They sat for the SSC exam 2012 tests at Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Bahrain and Tripoli centres under Dhaka Education Board.

This year, the physically challenged students got 20 minutes of extra time instead of 15 minutes.

Moreover, students with disabilities, who cannot see or hear or are suffering from cerebral palsy or who cannot write, allowed to take transcribers with them.
