A powerful earthquake measuring 6.7 in magnitude has hit northwest eastern India, close to the border with Myanmar, the US Geological Survey has reported.

The quake was 55 kilometers (34 miles) deep and centered 29 kilometers west of Imphal, the capital city of the Manipur state. The USGS later revised the quake’s magnitude down from 6.8 to 6.7.

First aftershock felt at 03:59 GMT ( 09:59 BDT) in a scale of 3.6 magnitude.

A mild 5.3 magnitude earthquake hits Assam, India and its surrounding zones in India and Bangladesh today on 6:11pm IST , 6:41pm BDT (12:41 GMT), Friday, May 11, 2012. No damages reported so far. The main jolt felt in Assam, India, where a 5.3 magnitude shakes the state.

Epic center location is 26.29 N  92.87 E and depth is 11.5km. Distance of the epic center is 381km from Dhaka, 30km from Hojai, 20km from Nagaon, 121km from Shillong, 113km from Guwahati, 609km from Kolkata and 1571km from New delhi.

No reports of damages and injures so far.
