Ijtema 2016 in Bangladesh will be divided in to two sessions for 32 districts. First part of Ijtema 2016 will start on Friday 8th January and ends on Sunday 10th January with 16 districts in participation. Second phase of Ijtema 2016 for 16 districts will start on Friday 15th January and ends on Sunday 17th January. Rest of the 32 district peoples can take part in Ijtema 2017, which will be also held in two phases, 16 districts each. All future Ijtema in Bangladesh will be held in this manner until further instructions.
Though foreigners are allowed to participate in each and every year of World Ijtema Congregation. Foreigners are also allowed to attend any part of two sessions of Ijtema each year.

Ijtema, also known as Bishwa Ijtema, is an annual Aalmi Ijtema held at Tongi, Bangladesh by the river Turag. It is the 3rd largest Muslim congregation in the world after the Arbaeen gathering in Kerbala, Iraq and Hajj. The event focuses on prayers and supplication and does not allow political discussion. The local police estimated the number of attendees of 2014 ijtema to be 5 million while in 2013 the number of attendees was 3 million.
