BPL Match 3 Live: Dhaka vs Khulna match preview
Keiron Pollard played down the threat of number one all-rounder of the world Shakib Al Hasan and experienced Shivnaraine Chanderpaul when his side Dhaka Gladiators will take on Shakib’s Khulna Royal Bengals on Saturday. Pollard, one of the most effective Twenty20 players who won many matches for Mumbai Indian in IPL thought in this sort of cricket nothing could be guaranteed.
“Both players are talented and are proven in the international arena. Shakib has been very good for Bangladesh and Chanderpaul has been around with West Indies cricket for long time,” he told the reporters during the practice session of Dhaka on Friday.
“They are going to have the experiences and share the experiences and hopefully we will have a good game tomorrow (Saturday). And at the end of the day, the side that plays better cricket will walk out victorious no matter what names you have in the line-up.”
Pollard’s compatriot Chris Gayle lit up the BPL with a whirlwind century on Friday against Sylhet Royals without any practice as he just landed in Bangladesh a day before the game.
Pollard also landed in Bangladesh just two days before the game but believed his stint with Big Bash recently would bolster him.
“I have been playing cricket for last four months and I have been in Big Bash cricket so I don’t think it won’t be any problem. As I have been playing cricket I just need to fit in myself in the team and pick the emotions of T20 cricket.”
He however expected to gather the momentum despite not knowing well all the players of Khulna.
“To be honest I don’t know most of the players. I have not seen the team and don’t know who is playing and who is not. We will go out there, pick up the momentum,” he replied to a query.
Dhaka Gladiators coach Ian Pont was bullish about his team’s chance albeit he earmarked Khulna as balanced and strong side.
“The thing about the BPL is no one knows who is going to win the competition but we will know in 19 days’ time. But in pen and paper, there are some very balanced and strong sides. Dhaka Gladiators are one of them but you don’t play on paper rather you play on grass,” Pont said.
He expected local players’ to fire up, “We will only find out when we get into the middle of exactly how we are performing. The tournament is about Bangladesh cricket so I think the local players will perform for us.”
Pont said they are yet to pick up the best XI, “We haven’t decided the playing eleven yet. I think its going to be a tough job to pick the playing eleven. We will have a team management meeting today evening.
In the day’s other match, Barisal Burners will take on Duronto Rajshahi. Barisal started the tournament with a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Sylhet Royals. They however would be absolute favourite against Duronto Rajshahi since Gayle proved he has been in form.
